Groundbreaking Art Installation Bridges Two Cities in Real-Time
Dublin and New York City are now connected through a groundbreaking art installation called 'The Portal,' forming a real-time visual bridge between the two cities. This on-street sculpture features a 24/7 livestream, allowing residents and visitors in both Dublin and New York to interact with each other.
Connecting Iconic Locations in Dublin and NYC
In Dublin, the portal is located on O'Connell Street, providing views of the GPO and the Spire, while in New York City, it's positioned at the Flatiron South Public Plaza at Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street, one of the city's most dynamic intersections. This innovative art project aims to unite people via technology across the Atlantic Ocean, offering a unique space for interaction between Dubliners, New Yorkers, and visitors alike.
Uniting Citizens Through Cultural Performances and Programming
Unveiled by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Daithí De Róiste, 'The Portal' will remain a fixture in Dublin's streetscape throughout the summer and into the autumn. It will feature cultural performances and programming to celebrate the vibrancy of both cities, starting with New York Design Week in mid-May. From July, the Dublin portal will expand to connect with global destinations in Poland, Brazil, and Lithuania.
An Invitation to Global Unity
Lithuanian artist Benediktas Gylys, founder of the portal, envisions it as an invitation to transcend geographical boundaries and experience the world's unity. The installation has been brought to life through a collaboration between Flatiron NoMad Partnership, Simons Foundation, NYC DOT Art, Dublin City Council, and the EU Capital of Smart Tourism.
Bridging Two Incredible Global Cities
'The Portal' is set to become a captivating attraction, bridging the gap between two incredible global cities, showcasing their vibrancy, and fostering new connections.
